A hydraulically dampened rotary barrel locking system for a handgun is provided which preferably includes a receiver, a barrel and a spring-loaded moveable slide. The barrel comprises one or more axially aligned locking lugs configured to allow the slide to travel down the barrel axis when the lugs align with a keyway slot in an extended lug boss at the discharge end of the slide. Felt recoil is reduced and accuracy is improved due to a more balanced slide-to-barrel mass ratio than prior art and hydraulic dampening between the barrel and slide due to improved journal bearing action.

A trigger mechanism assembly for a firearm provides a horizontal arrangement of its sear relative to a trigger of the firearm by way of a linkage bar. The sear and a disconnector share a pivot point, wherein at each engagement surface between the pivot point and the sear and the disconnector, respectively, there is a bearing. A pair of mandibles is provided, one mandible by each of the sear and the disconnector. A spring is operatively associated between the sear and the disconnector to bias them to rotate about the pivot point dependently, whereby a first distance between the pair of mandibles is maintained. An inclined surface is provided along at least one mandible so that a downward force urged by a hammer against the inclined surface moves the disconnector independently of the sear, whereby a second distance between the pair of mandibles is greater than the first distance.

A mechanism using flexure hinges as part of the trigger and/or safety mechanism of a firearm. Flexure hinges provide relative motion between two stiff members by the elastic deformation of an arbitrarily shaped flexible connector often implemented in metallic and composite materials. The flexure hinges are formed by flexure links connecting two stiff members. The flexure links connect various parts of the trigger assembly, such as a trigger component, including a shoe, plate, or safety, to a housing of the firearm. A method of creating the mechanism provides a trigger component, a housing, and connects the two parts by a flexure link with a flexure hinge.

A breechblock assembly for a firearm includes a breechblock extending along a central axis and configured to reciprocate along a receiver of the firearm between a recoil position and a battery position. A lever on the breechblock is movable from a blocking position to a non-blocking position in response to the breechblock moving from the recoil position to the battery position. A spring biases the lever to the blocking position. When the lever is in the blocking position the lever prevents the firearm from firing.

An operating system for a firearm includes a trigger, a hammer, a disconnector, a pivoting arm, and a lower member. The trigger includes a lower portion, an upper portion, and a trigger pivot. The disconnector includes a lower portion, an upper portion, and a disconnector pivot. The pivoting arm includes a forward protrusion, a pivoting arm opening, and a pin extending through the pivoting arm opening. The lower member includes a lower member opening and a pin hole that is coaxial with the trigger pivot and the disconnector pivot. At least a portion of the trigger and at least a portion of the disconnector are disposed within the lower member opening. Motion of the trigger causes the forward protrusion of the pivoting arm to engage a bolt carrier group and hold the bolt carrier group in an open position.

A trigger mechanism that can be used in AR-pattern firearms has a hammer, a trigger member, a disconnector, a locking member, and a “three position” safety selector having safe, standard semi-automatic, and forced reset semi-automatic positions. In the standard semi-automatic position, rearward movement of the bolt carrier causes rearward pivoting of the hammer such that the disconnector hook catches the hammer hook, at which time a user must manually release the trigger member to free the hammer from the disconnector to permit the hammer and trigger member to pivot to the set positions so that the user can pull the trigger member to fire the firearm. In the forced reset semi-automatic position, rearward movement of the bolt carrier causes rearward pivoting of the hammer causing the trigger member to be forced to the set position, the safety selector preventing the disconnector hook from catching the hammer hook, and thereafter when the bolt carrier reaches the substantially in-battery position the user can pull the trigger member to fire the firearm without manually releasing the trigger member. The locking member is pivotable between a first position at which the locking member mechanically blocks the trigger member from moving to the released position and a second position at which the locking member does not mechanically block the trigger member allowing the trigger member to be moved to the released position. The locking member is spring biased toward the first position and moved against the spring bias to the second position by contact from the bolt carrier during forward movement of the bolt carrier as the bolt carrier reaches a substantially in-battery position.
