A cartridge with an expanding bullet that has advantageous terminal effects over an extended range. The expanding bullet including a bullet body including a metal jacket extending from a tail portion to a nose portion and surrounding an interior solid core and defining a forward opening and interior cavity. A tip has an exterior surface substantially flush with an exterior surface of the metal jacket. The tip has a main portion forward of the opening and a tip retention portion that at least partially fills the interior cavity. In certain embodiments the tip retention portion includes one or more fluid entry facilitation means such as a fracture regions configured to, upon impact of the bullet with a target, fracture or deform to expose one or more fluid pathways into the interior cavity and to a forward facing interior surface for initiating expansion of the expanding bullet.

The bullet casing impact reducer includes an upper frame member and a flexible drape member configured to be hung from the upper frame member so as to extend downwardly from the upper frame member, the flexible drape member configured to absorb an impact of a bullet casing after the bullet casing is expelled from a firearm so as to reduce a likelihood that the bullet casing is deflected back towards a shooter of the firearm. In some embodiments, the bullet casing impact reducer further includes a lower frame member configured to be mounted at a bottom end of the flexible drape member, and the lower frame member and a looped lower end portion of the flexible drape member configured to collectively form a collection bin for receiving bullet casings after the bullet casings are expelled from the firearm.

A cartridge includes a bullet on which there is formed a coating. At least an upper layer of the coating is porous and comprises a thermoset polymer and a filler. The filler may be a dry film lubricant. The cartridge may be used in a gun of the type that has a rifled barrel. A rifled barrel has a bore diameter and a groove diameter. The bullet may have a metal diameter that is less than the groove diameter but slightly greater than the bore diameter. The coated bullet may have a diameter that is greater than or equal to the groove diameter. When fired, the bullet produces less barrel friction and heating than a conventional bullet. The velocity of the coated bullets is greater and the velocity distribution is more narrow compared to uncoated bullets.

Bullet constructed from FRP, preferably basalt. The method includes the step of forming pultruded basalt strands positioned co-axially before milling to form a conventional bullet shape. The process uses a 10 mm FRP rod held by a revolving collet that is interfaced with an upper diamond OD grinder and a lower diamond profile wheel. Gravity allows the rod to rest on a Teflon coated cut off wheel. The upper grinder draws the rod to an exact outer dimension and the lower grinder cuts the bullet to a perfect dimension. Linear slides move the cut off wheel and grinders in for the cutting process and out to allow the finished bullet to pass.
