US12698953 - Impact resistant garage door

The patent describes an impact-resistant garage door assembly designed to withstand bullets and impacts, featuring panels made of high-strength ballistic material sandwiched between an impact shield and a rear plate. Each panel is interconnected with a pivot mechanism and incorporates rearward extensions that slide along vertical bollards, allowing the door to move between open and closed positions.
Claim 1
1 . An impact resistant garage door having a plurality of horizontally extending panels, including a top panel, a bottom panel and multiple middle panels, interconnected by a pivot located between adjacent ones of the panels to permit rotation of the adjacent panels relative to each other, comprising: a vertical bollard supported rearwardly on opposing sides of the garage door; each said panel having a panel body formed with a layer of high strength ballistic material sandwiched between a front impact shield and a rear plate; the top and bottom panels also having opposing rearward extensions of the panel body, which encircles the respective bollards, said rearward extensions sliding vertically along the bollards when the garage door moves between raised and lowered orientations. a vertical bollard supported rearwardly on opposing sides of the garage door; each said panel having a panel body formed with a layer of high strength ballistic material sandwiched between a front impact shield and a rear plate; the top and bottom panels also having opposing rearward extensions of the panel body, which encircles the respective bollards, said rearward extensions sliding vertically along the bollards when the garage door moves between raised and lowered orientations.
