US12661972 - Electrified military vehicle

The patent describes a military vehicle that operates in multiple modes, including an engine mode and an ultrasilent mode, where the engine can be shut off to minimize sound output. In the ultrasilent mode, the integrated motor generator drives the vehicle’s tractive elements using energy from an energy storage system, with limited transitions back to other modes until user input is received.
Claim 1
1 . A military vehicle comprising: a driveline comprising an engine and an integrated motor generator (IMG); processing circuitry configured to operate the military vehicle according to a plurality of modes including an engine mode and an ultrasilent mode; and a front end accessory drive (FEAD) comprising a plurality of accessories and an electric motor-generator; wherein in the engine mode, the engine drives tractive elements of the military vehicle through the IMG for transportation; wherein in the ultrasilent mode, the engine is shut off, and the IMG drives the tractive elements of the military vehicle for transportation using energy from an energy storage system (ESS); and wherein when the military vehicle is operated according to the ultrasilent mode, transitioning out of the ultrasilent mode is limited until receiving a user input to transition the military vehicle out of the ultrasilent mode, even if the ESS approaches complete energy depletion; wherein in the ultrasilent mode, a fan of the FEAD is disengaged and engagement of the fan of the FEAD is limited until receiving the user input to transition out of the ultrasilent mode: wherein a sound output of the military vehicle when operating in the ultrasilent mode is less than the sound output of the military vehicle when operating in an electric mode in which the IMG drives the tractive elements for transportation; and wherein the sound output of the military vehicle when operating in the electric mode is less than the sound output of the military vehicle when operating in the engine mode or a dual-drive mode in which both the engine and the IMG drive the tractive elements for transportation. a driveline comprising an engine and an integrated motor generator (IMG); processing circuitry configured to operate the military vehicle according to a plurality of modes including an engine mode and an ultrasilent mode; and a front end accessory drive (FEAD) comprising a plurality of accessories and an electric motor-generator; wherein in the engine mode, the engine drives tractive elements of the military vehicle through the IMG for transportation; wherein in the ultrasilent mode, the engine is shut off, and the IMG drives the tractive elements of the military vehicle for transportation using energy from an energy storage system (ESS); and wherein when the military vehicle is operated according to the ultrasilent mode, transitioning out of the ultrasilent mode is limited until receiving a user input to transition the military vehicle out of the ultrasilent mode, even if the ESS approaches complete energy depletion; wherein in the ultrasilent mode, a fan of the FEAD is disengaged and engagement of the fan of the FEAD is limited until receiving the user input to transition out of the ultrasilent mode: wherein a sound output of the military vehicle when operating in the ultrasilent mode is less than the sound output of the military vehicle when operating in an electric mode in which the IMG drives the tractive elements for transportation; and wherein the sound output of the military vehicle when operating in the electric mode is less than the sound output of the military vehicle when operating in the engine mode or a dual-drive mode in which both the engine and the IMG drive the tractive elements for transportation.
