A shotgun shell comprising a cartridge loaded with a plurality of plated bismuth shot, wherein each plated bismuth shot comprises: a substantially spherical core comprising a bismuth alloy, wherein the bismuth alloy comprises bismuth and tin; and a metal coating plated on the core; wherein the metal coating comprises a metal or metal alloy having a hardness greater than bismuth; wherein the metal coating has a thickness of from about 0.0005 to about 0.02 inches; wherein the plurality of plated bismuth shot comprises a mixture of small shot and large shot. a substantially spherical core comprising a bismuth alloy, wherein the bismuth alloy comprises bismuth and tin; and a metal coating plated on the core; wherein the metal coating comprises a metal or metal alloy having a hardness greater than bismuth; wherein the metal coating has a thickness of from about 0.0005 to about 0.02 inches; wherein the plurality of plated bismuth shot comprises a mixture of small shot and large shot.
