US12773470 - Plug for lung tissue tract sealing

The present invention provides a tissue sealing plug comprising a substrate comprising foamed gelatin impregnated with polyethylene glycol that is liquid at room temperature, wherein the weight ratio of polyethylene glycol to foamed gelatin in the substrate is about 4:1 to about 6.8:1 and the substrate is substantially free of air, along with methods of using the plug for closing tissue punctures in the lung.

The invention relates to a tissue sealing plug designed to close punctures in lung tissue, made from a foamed gelatin substrate impregnated with liquid polyethylene glycol. The specific formulation includes a weight ratio of polyethylene glycol to foamed gelatin between 4:1 and 6.8:1, ensuring the plug is substantially free of air.

Claim 1

1 . A tissue sealing plug comprising a compressed substrate comprising foamed gelatin having an interconnected pore structure impregnated with a polyethylene glycol that is liquid at room temperature, wherein 1) the weight ratio of polyethylene glycol to foamed gelatin in the substrate is about 4:1 to about 6.8:1, 2) the polyethylene glycol has a molecular weight of about 300 to about 450 Da according to gel permeation chromatography, and 3) the plug is substantially free of air. 1) the weight ratio of polyethylene glycol to foamed gelatin in the substrate is about 4:1 to about 6.8:1, 2) the polyethylene glycol has a molecular weight of about 300 to about 450 Da according to gel permeation chromatography, and 3) the plug is substantially free of air.
