A ballistic system, comprising: a cover defining an opening and forming a pocket, a headrest hood operatively coupled to the cover and configured to be installed over a headrest of a vehicle seat; an armor assembly installable in the cover; and a ballistic backer partially installable in the cover, the backer including a protruding portion that extends out of the cover; wherein the cover comprises a front and a back, wherein the back contacts a back of the vehicle seat in response to the ballistic seat backer being installed in a vehicle. a cover defining an opening and forming a pocket, a headrest hood operatively coupled to the cover and configured to be installed over a headrest of a vehicle seat; an armor assembly installable in the cover; and a ballistic backer partially installable in the cover, the backer including a protruding portion that extends out of the cover; wherein the cover comprises a front and a back, wherein the back contacts a back of the vehicle seat in response to the ballistic seat backer being installed in a vehicle.
