US12546556 - Arrow rest

An arrow rest is moveable between an encapturing configuration and a discharge configuration. The arrow rest comprises a body, a first arm, and a second arm. The first arm is movably mounted with respect to the body. The second arm is also movably mounted with respect to the body. Responsive to movement from the encapturing configuration to the discharge configuration a first portion of the first arm and a first portion of the second arm operate to move away from each other, while a second portion of the first arm and a second portion of the second arm operate to move toward each other.

arrowrestarcheryequipment

The patent describes a moveable arrow rest that transitions between encapturing and discharge configurations, utilizing a system of meshed gears to control the movement of two arms. This design allows for the secure holding of an arrow shaft and facilitates its release through a cam mechanism that engages and disengages a detent.

Claim 1

1 . An arrow rest moveable between an encapturing configuration and a discharge configuration, the arrow rest comprising: a body; a plurality of meshed gears coupled with the body; a first arm extending from the body and comprising: a shaft coupled with a first gear of the plurality of meshed gears; and a tab extending radially from the shaft, movably mounted with respect to the body, having a distal edge, and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the shaft as the shaft rotates about the longitudinal axis of the shaft; and a second arm extending from the body and comprising: a second shaft coupled with a second gear of the plurality of meshed gears, wherein the shaft and the second shaft are rotationally coupled via the plurality of meshed gears and configured to rotate in concert with one another but in opposite directions of rotation from one another; a second tab extending radially from the second shaft, movably mounted with respect to the body, and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the second shaft as the second shaft rotates about the longitudinal axis of the second shaft; and a cam coupled with the first arm and a biasing means and configured with a detent defined into a surface of the cam, the detent operable to engage with a ball to releasably hold the cam in the encapturing configuration against an urging of a rotational bias toward the discharge configuration provided by the biasing means, wherein responsive to movement of the arrow rest to the encapturing configuration the tab and the second tab are rotated to substantially in plane with one another to form an aperture from the distal edge of the tab and the distal edge of the second tab, wherein the aperture is configured to encapture a circumference of an arrow shaft, and wherein the tab and second tab are maintained in the encapturing configuration, against the urging of the rotational bias, by the releasable hold provided by the ball and detent, and wherein responsive to triggering movement from the encapturing configuration to the discharge configuration by overcoming the releasable hold provided by the ball in the detent, the distal edge of the tab and the distal edge of the second tab operate, under the urging of the rotational bias, to move away from and out of plane with each other to open the aperture. a body; a plurality of meshed gears coupled with the body; a first arm extending from the body and comprising: a shaft coupled with a first gear of the plurality of meshed gears; and a tab extending radially from the shaft, movably mounted with respect to the body, having a distal edge, and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the shaft as the shaft rotates about the longitudinal axis of the shaft; and a shaft coupled with a first gear of the plurality of meshed gears; and a tab extending radially from the shaft, movably mounted with respect to the body, having a distal edge, and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the shaft as the shaft rotates about the longitudinal axis of the shaft; and a second arm extending from the body and comprising: a second shaft coupled with a second gear of the plurality of meshed gears, wherein the shaft and the second shaft are rotationally coupled via the plurality of meshed gears and configured to rotate in concert with one another but in opposite directions of rotation from one another; a second tab extending radially from the second shaft, movably mounted with respect to the body, and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the second shaft as the second shaft rotates about the longitudinal axis of the second shaft; and a cam coupled with the first arm and a biasing means and configured with a detent defined into a surface of the cam, the detent operable to engage with a ball to releasably hold the cam in the encapturing configuration against an urging of a rotational bias toward the discharge configuration provided by the biasing means, a second shaft coupled with a second gear of the plurality of meshed gears, wherein the shaft and the second shaft are rotationally coupled via the plurality of meshed gears and configured to rotate in concert with one another but in opposite directions of rotation from one another; a second tab extending radially from the second shaft, movably mounted with respect to the body, and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the second shaft as the second shaft rotates about the longitudinal axis of the second shaft; and a cam coupled with the first arm and a biasing means and configured with a detent defined into a surface of the cam, the detent operable to engage with a ball to releasably hold the cam in the encapturing configuration against an urging of a rotational bias toward the discharge configuration provided by the biasing means, wherein responsive to movement of the arrow rest to the encapturing configuration the tab and the second tab are rotated to substantially in plane with one another to form an aperture from the distal edge of the tab and the distal edge of the second tab, wherein the aperture is configured to encapture a circumference of an arrow shaft, and wherein the tab and second tab are maintained in the encapturing configuration, against the urging of the rotational bias, by the releasable hold provided by the ball and detent, and wherein responsive to triggering movement from the encapturing configuration to the discharge configuration by overcoming the releasable hold provided by the ball in the detent, the distal edge of the tab and the distal edge of the second tab operate, under the urging of the rotational bias, to move away from and out of plane with each other to open the aperture.
