US12522713 - Polymer nanocomposites and methods of making the same

This patent describes a method for fabricating a polymer composite material that incorporates aligned polymer chains and a specific range of exfoliated nanosheets to enhance ballistic resistance. The resulting materials are intended for use in applications requiring improved durability and protection.
Claim 1
1 . A polymer composite material, comprising: a polymer material having a plurality of polymer chains, wherein the polymer chains are aligned; and a planar material, wherein the amount of the planar material is between 10 wt % and 40 wt % of the composite material; and wherein the planar material is an exfoliated nanosheet selected from the group consisting of hexagonal boron nitride, silicene, germanene, phosphorene, MoS 2 , TiS 2 , WS 2 , VS 2 , TiSe 2 , MoSe 2 , WSe 2 , TaSe 2 , NbSe 2 , NiTe 2 , Bi 2 Te 3 , and combinations thereof. a polymer material having a plurality of polymer chains, wherein the polymer chains are aligned; and a planar material, wherein the amount of the planar material is between 10 wt % and 40 wt % of the composite material; and wherein the planar material is an exfoliated nanosheet selected from the group consisting of hexagonal boron nitride, silicene, germanene, phosphorene, MoS 2 , TiS 2 , WS 2 , VS 2 , TiSe 2 , MoSe 2 , WSe 2 , TaSe 2 , NbSe 2 , NiTe 2 , Bi 2 Te 3 , and combinations thereof.
