A method for selecting a choke from among a plurality of chokes to be applied to a barrel of a shotgun during a skeet shooting session is provided. The method involves firing at least one shot, after each shot fired, estimating a position of a point of impact between a clay target released from a launching machine and a shot fired from the shotgun of a shooter, calculating an impact distance between a position of the shooter and the estimated position of the point of impact, and selecting the choke as a function of the impact distance or of an average of impact distances obtained from a plurality of estimates of positions of the point of impact made after each one of a plurality of shots.

This patent describes a method for selecting a shotgun choke during skeet shooting by estimating the point of impact between a shot and a clay target after each shot fired. The selection process is based on calculating the impact distance and using an electronic control unit to automatically determine the trajectory model and reaction time.

Claim 1

  1. A method for selecting a choke from among a plurality of chokes to be applied to a barrel of a shotgun during a skeet shooting session, the method comprising: firing at least one shot; after each shot fired, estimating a position of a point of impact between a clay target released from a launching machine and a shot fired from the shotgun of a shooter; calculating an impact distance between a position of the shooter and the estimated position of the point of impact; selecting the choke as a function of said impact distance or as a function of an average of impact distances obtained from a plurality of estimates of the position of the point of impact made after each one of a plurality of shots made, wherein the estimate of the position of the point of impact is obtained with a method for estimating the position of the point of impact comprising: acquiring a trajectory model of the clay target; acquiring a release time of the clay target from the launching machine; acquiring a shooting time; obtaining a reaction time as a difference between the release time and the shooting time; and obtaining spatial coordinates of the point of impact on the trajectory model at an impact time that includes the reaction time, wherein the trajectory model of the clay target and the reaction time are automatically calculated based on information acquired by an electronic control unit of devices used for performing the skeet shooting session. firing at least one shot; after each shot fired, estimating a position of a point of impact between a clay target released from a launching machine and a shot fired from the shotgun of a shooter; calculating an impact distance between a position of the shooter and the estimated position of the point of impact; selecting the choke as a function of said impact distance or as a function of an average of impact distances obtained from a plurality of estimates of the position of the point of impact made after each one of a plurality of shots made, wherein the estimate of the position of the point of impact is obtained with a method for estimating the position of the point of impact comprising: acquiring a trajectory model of the clay target; acquiring a release time of the clay target from the launching machine; acquiring a shooting time; obtaining a reaction time as a difference between the release time and the shooting time; and obtaining spatial coordinates of the point of impact on the trajectory model at an impact time that includes the reaction time, wherein the trajectory model of the clay target and the reaction time are automatically calculated based on information acquired by an electronic control unit of devices used for performing the skeet shooting session.
