US12405090 - Composite telescopic sight and sight mount

The patent describes a composite mount designed for permanent bonding to an optical sighting apparatus, featuring a rail receiver portion that allows for secure attachment to a mounting rail. This mount includes a clamping mechanism that self-centers the optical sighting apparatus, enhancing stability and alignment during use.
Claim 1
- An optical sighting apparatus and mount, comprising: a main body, with a first end portion and a second end portion and having a central axis extending from the first end portion to the second end portion; an objective lens disposed within the body; an eyepiece housing a lens, the mount is formed of a substantially non-conductive composite material and configured to be permanently bonded to the main body, the mount comprising: a rail receiver portion for receiving a mounting rail, wherein the rail receiver portion further comprises: at least one flat portion forming a plane having a major axis perpendicular to the central axis; a first angled portion located on each end of a minor axis of the flat portion, the first angled portion being capable of receiving a respective angled portion of a receiver portion of the mounting rail; at least one second angled portion intersecting with at least one of the first angled portions; and a clamping portion with a threaded mechanism to clamp the rail receiver portion to the mounting rail, wherein the threaded mechanism of the clamping portion comprises a bolt with a contact portion configured to contact the mounting rail to clamp the optical sighting apparatus to the mounting rail, and rotation of the bolt to clamp the optical sighting apparatus to the mounting rail self-centers the optical sighting apparatus with respect to the mounting rail. a main body, with a first end portion and a second end portion and having a central axis extending from the first end portion to the second end portion; an objective lens disposed within the body; an eyepiece housing a lens, the mount is formed of a substantially non-conductive composite material and configured to be permanently bonded to the main body, the mount comprising: a rail receiver portion for receiving a mounting rail, wherein the rail receiver portion further comprises: at least one flat portion forming a plane having a major axis perpendicular to the central axis; a first angled portion located on each end of a minor axis of the flat portion, the first angled portion being capable of receiving a respective angled portion of a receiver portion of the mounting rail; at least one second angled portion intersecting with at least one of the first angled portions; and a rail receiver portion for receiving a mounting rail, wherein the rail receiver portion further comprises: at least one flat portion forming a plane having a major axis perpendicular to the central axis; a first angled portion located on each end of a minor axis of the flat portion, the first angled portion being capable of receiving a respective angled portion of a receiver portion of the mounting rail; at least one second angled portion intersecting with at least one of the first angled portions; and a clamping portion with a threaded mechanism to clamp the rail receiver portion to the mounting rail, wherein the threaded mechanism of the clamping portion comprises a bolt with a contact portion configured to contact the mounting rail to clamp the optical sighting apparatus to the mounting rail, and rotation of the bolt to clamp the optical sighting apparatus to the mounting rail self-centers the optical sighting apparatus with respect to the mounting rail.
