US12398967 - Folding firearm

firearmfoldingmechanism
The patent describes a folding firearm with a barrel assembly that pivots between an extended operable condition and a folded inoperable condition, secured by a latch assembly. This latch allows for single-control release, ensuring that the barrel can move freely without additional restraints when unlatched.
Claim 1
- A firearm comprising: a frame having a trigger assembly and defining a bolt passage; a barrel assembly pivotally connected to the frame for movement between an extended operable condition and a folded inoperable condition; the barrel assembly defining a barrel axis; a latch assembly operably connected to the frame and to the barrel assembly; the latch assembly including a latch operable between a first latched condition and a second unlatched condition; when the barrel assembly is in the operable condition and the latch is in the latched condition, the barrel assembly is secured in the operable condition; when the latch is in the unlatched condition, the barrel assembly is free to move away from the operable condition toward the folded condition; the firearm being free of other restraints on movement of the barrel assembly from the operable condition besides the latch, such that single-control release of the barrel assembly is provided; and wherein the latch is a trigger guard associated with the trigger assembly and configured to guard a trigger lever of the trigger assembly when the latch is in the latched condition. a frame having a trigger assembly and defining a bolt passage; a barrel assembly pivotally connected to the frame for movement between an extended operable condition and a folded inoperable condition; the barrel assembly defining a barrel axis; a latch assembly operably connected to the frame and to the barrel assembly; the latch assembly including a latch operable between a first latched condition and a second unlatched condition; when the barrel assembly is in the operable condition and the latch is in the latched condition, the barrel assembly is secured in the operable condition; when the latch is in the unlatched condition, the barrel assembly is free to move away from the operable condition toward the folded condition; the firearm being free of other restraints on movement of the barrel assembly from the operable condition besides the latch, such that single-control release of the barrel assembly is provided; and wherein the latch is a trigger guard associated with the trigger assembly and configured to guard a trigger lever of the trigger assembly when the latch is in the latched condition.
