US12379190 - Ballistic-resistant composite with maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene

The patent describes a ballistic-resistant composite that incorporates a network of ballistic fibers and a resin matrix made from maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MA-g-PP). This composite aims to enhance ballistic protection while specifying the molecular weight and composition of the MA-g-PP used in its formulation.
Claim 1
- A ballistic-resistant composite comprising: at least one layer including a network of ballistic fibers and a resin matrix, the resin matrix including maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MA-g-PP), the MA-g-PP having a molecular weight of 30,000 to 80,000, the network of ballistic fibers including ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers, and the MA-g-PP having, by weight, 0.5% to 5% of maleic anhydride. at least one layer including a network of ballistic fibers and a resin matrix, the resin matrix including maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MA-g-PP), the MA-g-PP having a molecular weight of 30,000 to 80,000, the network of ballistic fibers including ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers, and the MA-g-PP having, by weight, 0.5% to 5% of maleic anhydride.
