US12339091 - Crossbow with movable trigger latch block

The patent describes a crossbow featuring a movable trigger latch block that engages and retains the bowstring, allowing for a cocking mechanism to draw the block to a cocked position. It includes a one-way retention mechanism to prevent forward movement of the latch block and a trigger mechanism to release the bowstring when desired.
Claim 1
- A crossbow comprising: a crossbow body having a flight track; a bowstring coupled to the crossbow body and extending across the crossbow body; a trigger latch block slidingly connected to the crossbow body, wherein the trigger latch block is configured to draw the bowstring in a rearward direction along the flight track; wherein the trigger latch block is configured to be drawn in the rearward direction along the flight track from an initial position to a cocked position in response to a rearward draw force; a one-way retention mechanism including a one-way clutch configured to selectively retain the trigger latch block against linear movement in a forward direction along the flight track; a guide engaging the trigger latch block; wherein the one-way clutch engages the guide to prevent linear movement of the trigger latch block in the forward direction along the flight track; and a trigger configured to engage the trigger latch block in the cocked position, wherein the trigger is configured to selectively cause the trigger latch block to release the bowstring. a crossbow body having a flight track; a bowstring coupled to the crossbow body and extending across the crossbow body; a trigger latch block slidingly connected to the crossbow body, wherein the trigger latch block is configured to draw the bowstring in a rearward direction along the flight track; wherein the trigger latch block is configured to be drawn in the rearward direction along the flight track from an initial position to a cocked position in response to a rearward draw force; a one-way retention mechanism including a one-way clutch configured to selectively retain the trigger latch block against linear movement in a forward direction along the flight track; a guide engaging the trigger latch block; wherein the one-way clutch engages the guide to prevent linear movement of the trigger latch block in the forward direction along the flight track; and a trigger configured to engage the trigger latch block in the cocked position, wherein the trigger is configured to selectively cause the trigger latch block to release the bowstring.
