US12320510 - Electronic device for use with deterrent device

The patent describes an electronic deterrent device integrated with a firearm, featuring a housing with a finger engagement surface that includes two independently movable contact members. The device utilizes a control system to detect movements of these contact members, allowing for various sensing configurations based on finger positioning.
Claim 1
- A deterrent device comprising: a firearm frame; a housing releasably coupled to the firearm frame; a finger engagement surface shaped to receive a portion of a finger and formed in part by a first contact member movably associated with the housing and in part by a second contact member movably associated with the housing, wherein the first contact member and the second contact member are independently actuatable; and an electronic device having a control system adapted to sense when the first contact member is moved and to sense when the second contact member is moved and that determines an output of the electronic device by sensing movement of at least one of the first contact member and the second contact member; wherein: the first contact member is configured so that the portion of the finger moves the first contact member in a manner that can be sensed, the second contact member is configured so that a second part of the finger moves the second contact member in a manner that can be sensed, and the finger engagement surface is configured so that a third portion of the finger moves both the first contact member in a manner that can be sensed and the second contact member in a manner that can be sensed. a firearm frame; a housing releasably coupled to the firearm frame; a finger engagement surface shaped to receive a portion of a finger and formed in part by a first contact member movably associated with the housing and in part by a second contact member movably associated with the housing, wherein the first contact member and the second contact member are independently actuatable; and an electronic device having a control system adapted to sense when the first contact member is moved and to sense when the second contact member is moved and that determines an output of the electronic device by sensing movement of at least one of the first contact member and the second contact member; wherein: the first contact member is configured so that the portion of the finger moves the first contact member in a manner that can be sensed, the second contact member is configured so that a second part of the finger moves the second contact member in a manner that can be sensed, and the finger engagement surface is configured so that a third portion of the finger moves both the first contact member in a manner that can be sensed and the second contact member in a manner that can be sensed. the first contact member is configured so that the portion of the finger moves the first contact member in a manner that can be sensed, the second contact member is configured so that a second part of the finger moves the second contact member in a manner that can be sensed, and the finger engagement surface is configured so that a third portion of the finger moves both the first contact member in a manner that can be sensed and the second contact member in a manner that can be sensed.
